First the Bad News:

The long rumored bad news is that the Dodge Viper is indeed to be dropped with the production of the current Dodge Viper coming to an end in July next year. A special edition limited to a 500 production run will be released to commemorate the end of the Viper.

Then the Good News:

Chrysler insists the final limited edition Dodge Viper will be the most special Viper ever! But that’s not really the good news; the good news is that an all-new car is being developed with the help of FIAT to replace the Viper! A car Chrysler claims will be much better than the Viper!

Truth be told though, the notion of a road legal production car is being stretched just a tad by this 700 bhp powered low production car.

Hailed as ‘America’s next great supercar,’ by its upstart creators, Devon Motorworks, the Devon GTX has finally broken cover after much speculation, spy shots and renderings at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in last month. Intended initially to be part of the Dodge Viper brand, the Devon GTX had to go it alone after Chrysler turned down Devon Motorworks’ $5.5 million bid to use the Viper brand. The GTX is nowhere near as aggressive as the Dodge Viper though its two-door coupe silhouette does have some resemblance to the Viper.

Powering the Devon GTX will be a naturally aspirated 8.4-Liter V10 engine that produces a maximum of 650 bhp at 6,100 rpm with Variable Valve Timing (VVT). Power is transmitted to a limited-slip differential at the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. The GTX’s suspension is track-tuned, while 380mm StopTech brakes are responsible for stopping the car.

The Devon GTX will be available in two variants when it goes on sale early next year – a standard version and a track-orientated version. Devon Motorworks plans to produce 36 cars a year at a retail price of $500,000. An optional racing package will be available for another $25,000.
