Hennessey Performance Camaro
While we hold our breath as General Motors accelerates quickly to bankruptcy and its suppliers struggle, one of GM’s most anticipated cars, the Chevrolet Camaro Z28 seems to be in limbo as it will cost as much as $50 million to produce the high-performance car. For now the Z28 is being canceled but Chevrolet has not abandoned the 570 bhp Z28 entirely as it hopes to regain dominance over the Camaro’s main rival, the Ford Mustang. Thus Camaro fans will have to settle for either the V6 powered base and mid-level RS models, or the V8-powered SS. Enter Hennessey Performance with the Camaro HPE550 and the Camaro HPE700!
For the Camaro HPE550 Hennessey Performance Engineering have added a supercharger onto the LS3 V8 that provides 6 psi boost. A Corsa stainless steel exhaust system and custom engine management system also help to increase maximum engine power to 562 bhp and peak torque to 557 lb-ft torque, enough to take on the Shelby GT500 Mustang! On the outside, Hennessey Performance Engineering have added light weight 20 inch alloy wheels and a Cam-Aero™ body kit that include a rear spoiler, carbon side rocker panels and a front splitter, as well as Hennessey graphics. Up to 500 units of the HPE550 will be produced in the 2010 model year, each with a unique serial number on the dash and under the hood. HPE550 customers will receive a half-day performance driving course at Lonestar Motorsports Park that is located next to Hennessey Performance Engineering’s showroom.
The HPE700 Camaro is a beast with the Corvette ZR1’s supercharged LS9 V8 engine tuned to produce a maximum power of 705 bhp and 717 lb-ft of peak torque, and a ZR1 inspired hood! The HPE700 Camaro also features the Cam-Aero™ body kit with the addition of hidden headlights and a billet grille at the front. HPE700 customers will receive a full-day performance driving course at Lonestar Motorsports Park.
Both the HPE550 Camaro and the HPE700 Camaro will be available from selected Chevrolet dealers and directly from Hennessey Performance Engineering’s showroom in Houston, Texas.
