The Tesla Roadster Sport
Tesla has added a high-performance model to its Lotus Elise-based electric vehicle, the Tesla Roadster Sport. The Tesla Roadster Sport offers a little more punch in terms of power but a lot more punch in your pocket! No figures have been released, but Tesla claims that the Roadster Sport comes with a hand-wound stator that increases winding density to help eliminate resistance and increase maximum torque. The Roadster Sport also features an improved suspension with adjustable dampers and anti-roll bars, as well as ultra high performance tires from Yokohama! These upgrades improve the 0-60 mph acceleration time from 3.9 seconds in the standard Roadster to 3.7 seconds in the Roadster Sport, and improvement of 0.2 seconds!
Tesla customers who haven’t taken delivery of the standard Tesla Roadsters, and there is about 1,100 of them, have the option of upgrading to the Roadster Sport. But there’s a catch: the Tesla Roadster Sport will set you back $128,500 in the US and €112,000 (excluding VAT) in Europe! That’s a hefty $28,000 extra for 0.2 seconds!
