The 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP
General Motors have announced that Pontiac is to reveal the highly-anticipated Pontiac G8 GXP at the forthcoming New York International Auto Show. The new flagship of Pontiac’s GXP performance series features 19-inch aluminum wheels with P245/40R19 tires, a four-wheel independent suspension that is fully adjustable, and small-block V8 engine that produces in excess of 400 horsepower!
Powering the Pontiac G8 GXP is the newest member of General Motor’s small-block V8 family, the 6.2-liter LS3 V8 engine, that is currently rated at 402 horsepower and 402 lb-ft of torque. The LS3 engine features a revised, larger-bore aluminum cylinder block with cast-in-place iron cylinder liners, high-flow cylinder heads; larger-diameter pistons; unique camshaft and camshaft timing; revised valvetrain with offset intake rocker arms; high-flow intake manifold; and high-flow fuel injectors. Pontiac claims a 0 to 60 mph performance time of about 4.7 seconds, and a quarter-mile time of 13.0 seconds at 108 mph!
The small-block V8 is matched to a Hydra-Matic six-speed 6L80 automatic transmission as standard. The 6L80 automatic transmission that uses a clutch-to-clutch operation and an integrated 32-bit transmission controller to deliver smooth and precise shifts. A new six-speed Tremec TR6060 manual transmission will also be available as an optional extra on the G8 GXP. The transmission will transmit the 400 plus horsepower to a limited-slip rear differential.
