Infiniti FX50 to debut at the Geneva Motor Show?

Infiniti FX heads to EuropeAfter almost 20 years, Nissan is taking its Infiniti range of luxury performance cars to the tough Western European market where it will compete against BMW, Mercedes Benz and Audi. To mark this occasion, Infiniti will debut the second generation of the Infiniti FX performance crossover on the eve of the 78th International Geneva Motor Show at a private ceremony to be attended by Mr. Carlos Ghosn, President and CEO Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. The V8 powered Infiniti FX crossover will make its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show on 5 March 2008, making it the first Infiniti to have its world premier outside of the USA! Infiniti will also unveil its line-up of performance cars to be introduced in the European market together with the second generation FX, from the last quarter of 2008.

In more Infiniti FX related news; speculation is rife that the engine that will power the FX will be a V8 variant of the Nissan GT-R’s high performance VR38DETT engine. As you all know, the VR38DETT that powers the Nissan GT-R supercar is based on the VRH35, a 3.5-liter V8 engine that powered quite a few race cars from the Nissan stable, including the R89C, R90C and R390 GT1. Thus, redeveloping the VR38DETT as a V8 shouldn’t be too complicated; especially as the ‘new’ V8 engine will be the successor to the VH45 that powered the Infinity FX45, and will have a 5.0-liter capacity, which equates to a 3.8-liter V6 with another two cylinders! We expect the new 5.0-liter V8 to join the performance sedan horsepower wars without too much trouble in what whould then be the Infiniti FX50.
