Geely GT concept
The Geely GT concept, the show stopper at last year’s Beijing Auto Show is back this year at the Shanghai Auto Show from April 20-28 and looks set to steal the show again. The Geely GT is a Chinese-designed coupe that takes its basic shape from the Italian school of design but adds a lot of Chinese touches. The Geely GT concept making its debut at the Auto Shanghai 2009 is revised version of the GT (which doesn’t stand Grand Tourismo, but for Geely Tiger) features Lamborghini-style doors and, according to a company statement, around 90 percent of the engineering problems have been solved.
The Chinese automaker also claims that the positive reviews from the American press have persuaded Geely to seriously consider bringing the concept car to production. The production version may be powered by a front-mounted 3.5-liter V6 engine with a claimed maximum power of 225 bhp and a peak torque of 340 lb.-ft.
That Geely have produced this concept speaks volumes for the company when you consider that Geely only ventured into car production in 1998, having started as a manufacturer of refrigerators in 1986, and a motorcycle manufacturer in 1994, and when you consider that the GT is not a knock-off imitation of another car!
