Porsche at the Middle East Motor Show
Porsche are selling so many of their supercars in Middle East that the company has decided to take its latest performance cars to the forthcoming the Middle East International Motor Show in Dubai, including the powerful 2008 Porsche 911 GT2, the sporty 2008 Porsche Cayenne GTS, and the Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia. The latter is not a production model but a special Cayenne S rally car that competed in the 2007 TransSyberia Rally.
Both the 911 GT2 and the Cayenne GTS were unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show but as we’re into modified cars, we just can’t get enough of Porsche, or can we? Especially as the 911 GT2 is the fastest and most powerful road going supercar ever produced by Porsche, and the Cayenne GTS is its sportiest SUV! In fact the Cayenne GTS must be the sportiest SUV on the market!
The GT2 has true supercar power and performance, delivering 50 hp more than the Porsche 911 Turbo using the same 3.6-liter 6-cylinder boxer engine! On the GT2, the boxer engine features two turbochargers, a nifty exhaust header and special light weight titanium exhaust system! All in all the engine produces a maximum of 530 hp at 6,500 rpm and a peak torque of 505 lb-ft. from 2,200 rpm through to 4,500 rpm! The 530 hp is transferred to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. With the supercar weighing a mere 3,175 lb. and having a drag coefficient of 0.32 Cd, the engine drives the supercar from 0 to 62 mph in a neck snapping time of just 3.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 204 mph!
The sporty Cayenne GTS with its tuned normally aspirated direct fuel injection (DFI) 4.8-liter V8 produces a maximum of 405 hp at 6,500 rpm and a peak torque of 369 lb-ft. at 3,500 rpm. Although not sporting supercar performance, the Cayenne GTS nonetheless has a very respectable 0 to 62 mph acceleration time of just 6.1 seconds and a top speed of 157 mph! It comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission, but what’s impressive about the Cayenne GTS is that it features Porsche’s electronically controlled damping system, the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), a system that was previously only found on Porsche’s sports cars.
But the car that will spark a lot of attention has got be the 2007 Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia in its black and orange livery, just like the Porsche 911 GT3 RS! Unfortunately, Cayenne S Transsyberia has been modified to improve safety more than anything else, so there’s reinforced A and B pillars and a roll cage. The gear ratios have also been shortened to meet the demands of rallying but the 4.8-liter V8 has been carried over from the production Cayenne S. So it boasts the stock 385 hp at 6,200 rpm and 369 lb-ft. of torque at 3,500 rpm. Be that as it may, there’s just something about race cars that gets people going!
